A gene that makes only women happy, not men, has been found. It is a low-expression form of the gene, called MAOA. Researchers analyzed the relationship between this gene and self-reported happiness levels in 345 subjects and found that those with this gene were happier than those without this gene. No association was noted with men's happiness. The MAOA gene regulates the activity of an enzyme that breaks down neurotransmitters that make people feel good, e.g., serotonin or dopamine. When women have the low-expression version of the MAOA gene, these neurotransmitters are increased. Compared to men, women are considered to feel happier in general, despite their tendency toward developing anxiety or mood disorders. The discovery of the happiness gene will contribute to the study of gender difference in mental states. (Motoko Chou)

(2)Did the study show any effect of the MAOA gene in men?
(3)In general, do men feel happier than women?
